Artist Statement

My work depicts National Parks and other public lands, from sweeping, colorful landscapes to intimate portraits of native species. Vibrant landscape paintings explore how we experience, remember, and understand wild places and invite viewers to pause and think about their relationship with nature.

For over a decade, I've painted the awe and emotional connection I feel in the presence of wild places, using bold and exaggerated color to immitate the way memory and emotion shape my perception of a landscape. After pursuing my master’s in scientific illustration, I recently began exploiring how to incorporate detailed and illustrative drawings into my practice, studying and documenting biodiversity through careful observation and research.

These two approaches, one expressive and emotional, the other precise and analytical, complement each other and reflect my curiosity about the ecological relationships in the environments I depict. Whether I am painting a sunrise in Big Bend or drawing the delicate flowers of a yucca, my goal is the same: to deepen my connection with nature and advocate for its protection.
